If a swimmer wants to overtake he/she should firmly tap the swimmer in front on the ankle. The swimmer in front must let the overtaking swimmer pass at the end of the lane. Failure to let an overtaking swimmer past may be interpreted as obstruction and result in a time penalty. There is no overtaking in the middle of the lane.

Bike: 2 laps of a 10km circuit
This is a non-drafting race. Draft busters will be on the course throughout the race. Leave Transition and follow the road out to exit the school grounds. Turn Left up the hill on the B6414 (Cousland Road). Continue on this road until you reach a set of traffic lights. At the lights turn left onto the bridge then turn immediate left again onto the A6124. On completion of the 2nd lap turn left back into Dalkeith High School to return to the Transition Area. Please note that you take the second entrance to the school to return to transition.

Run: 5km
The run is an out and back course along a cycle path. On leaving transition turn right and follow the path until you reach the turn point.
